BNP’s Moyeen Khan thanks interim govt for new EC, urges swift reforms

BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan today thanked the interim government for forming the new Election Commission.
“We thank the interim government for forming an Election Commission. The mandate given to them by the people is to transition from autocracy to democracy. This is their primary responsibility,” Moyeen Khan said after paying tribute to BNP founder and former president Ziaur Rahman at his grave in the capital.
He also urged the government to carry out essential reforms swiftly and organize a free, fair, and impartial election without unnecessary delays.
“We are prepared to cooperate fully with this government. But, this government should not delay unnecessarily. They must complete the necessary reforms and conduct a credible election without further delay,” he added.
“We hope that this government will promptly hold a fair election, through which a parliament consisting of true public representatives will be formed, and that parliament will establish a government of the people,” he said.
“BNP does not engage in politics for power. We are committed to serving the people. If the people willingly vote for us, we assure you that we will form a government focused on their development and progress,” he added.
Moyeen Khan also pointed out the importance of a fair election, saying, “This election is not just about the right to vote; it is about restoring the people’s rights to speak freely, live securely, and ensuring media freedom. These rights are intrinsically linked to the upcoming free and impartial election.”
